I believe it's a matter of preference at this point. It used to be Dell but ever since they brought themselves down to their competition's level they have lost my respect. They used to provide lifetime technical support with their products but now they charge for it. Also they have changed most of their Home technical support to India and other countries so getting people who speak understandable english is hard to come by. I would go with either one but would lean toward HP or even Toshiba because of their innovative styling and up to date technologies. I used to work for Dell before they switched to all that and was proud to support them.

I can say from my experiences that a Dell is better. I currently have an Inspiron E1505, fully loaded. It beats the pants of the HP I had prior. I may be biased, though, because a desktop HP I had in the past has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Why I got one of their laptops after my experience, I will never know. I hope you get what you really want! Take care.

HP is better equipment and has better support than Dell. You can also get HP computers worked on almost anywhere but can only really get Dell fixed by Dell.

If the preinstalled software is a problem, delete it. All computers come with all that garbage on them now.

I would say whatever fits your personal needs the best as far as system configuration, bells and whistles, and price. I have been debating both, and think I have settled on the DELL 1405/640M since its configuration is superior to the HP for my needs and is running at least 150 cheaper.

Customer service is going to he hit or miss with any product. And both companies outsource tech support to India.

I would prefer hp because it is cheaper than dell, and if you need help with your laptop it's easier to contact hp than dell. Also hp are reliable and it's better.

HP. I have had both and I LOVE my HP. My tell was noisy, the screen had poor resolution, and the damn thing actually started to get hot. I also had a very poor customer service experience. I've got an HP Pavilion dv5000 wide screen and it's as fast and reliable as my "big" PC. I dropped it recently and it's working just fine.

Dell, Hp comes with all this preintalled trial crap.
that's if you are buyin a standart one.
but if u customize it yourself putting inside all you want, like your own graphic card , memory , audio cad then any of them can be better ( still HP will come with all the preinstalled crap thou)
