Just installed new motherboard and proccessor, everything is correct. When you boot up the h.d. (tried 3 diffrent ones) and the 2 optical drives will not work with the ide cables pluged in. You can boot, then remove the ide from the optical or h.d. and you can hear it start up running, ./the optical drive you then open the bay door,. Am i missing something to fix this or is there a short or is the board bad. also, tried 2 diffrent ide bus cables. Same thing. All drives are good and work

Is it a SATA or IDE drive? Does the drive work if you connect it without the optical drives?

Most likely either the mobo has a defective controller, or the cables are installed backwards. Most cables and connectors are keyed but I've seen a few that aren't.

Also make sure that you're using 80 wire cables, not older 40 wire cables.

Make sure that the jumpers on the drives are set properly. One needs to be master and the other needs to be slave unless you're using cable-sense cables. Cable-sense cables will have a gap cut in one wire (or pair in 80 wire cables).

Lastly, if the mobo has a SATA controller and you're not using it make sure that it is disabled in the BIOS and the IDE controllers are enabled and selected as boot devices.
