The Guardian is socialist. They are left wing, but not extreme, though they often appear to be extreme in comparison to the many right wing papers in this country! (Right wing would include the Mail and the Sun).
One way of understanding the biases of a newspaper is by finding out who owns them. Another (more fun) way is by reading the highly satirical Private Eye magazine, which ridicules all of the papers.
The Guardian is (stereotypically) read by artists, students, academics etc.

As left biased as the Mail is right biased. It is the most likely to be quoted newspaper by the BBC.
