Hiiii, I'm sure most of you have heard of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love Of All". There is a part which is :
" I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow
If I failed, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believed.
No matter what they take from me they can't take away my dignity"
Can anyone explain what does this paragraph mean? What does she mean "anyone's shadow"???????

To walk in someone's shadow means that you're following their lead. The songwriter says she will make her own choices and follow her own beliefs as she goes through life.
BTW, the original is by Dolly Parton, who wrote the song.

It means that she is going to live her life the way she sees fit. She is not going to follow anyone or let them tell her how to live. It doesn't matter to her if she fails or if she succeeds, she at least lives her life how she wants to. And no on is going to strip her of that right.

I think what she means is that no one is to mold her into what they want her to be. She is going to be herself. Or that she will not follow no one in order for her to succeed.
