I guess the best place to start is by contacting the publisher. Check out their websites for job opportunities and contact info.

I've often thought I'd like to be a pattern tester. I've heard you don't make much money though. Just the pattern for free, sometimes a few bucks.

Contact a magazine that specializes in knitting. Find out from them their policies on submission of articles.
