Hippies have taken over California. They run the Legislation. But, you will find no flower children living on the streets or under bridges anymore. The Hippies have grown up and have morphed into the teachers, lawyers, professors, doctors, etc. With $800.00 you will not last a week in California. Unless you plan on camping out. And even then, you will only last a month. Things here cost a lot. Food, logging, it is all high. And the area with the Hippie remnants? It is the highest cost area in the USA. You are talking San Fransisco, Bay area, Northern California. Homes that most of would tear down are selling for $900,000 and over, and jobs are hard to find. (Unless you are a computer geek, or wine maker. Also, the homeless inhabit just about any spot that you might be able to camp out in for an extended amount of time. And many of them are violent. So, unless you know someone that's willing to sponsor you, stay home. One other thing, a "Rainbow Sister" here is black lesbian.

The Bay Are in Northern California which includes Berkeley, San Francisco near Haight and Ashberry Streets, and in Santa Cruz ... Mind you, they are all older, but there are a lot of younger ones following in their shoes or at least their clothes... $800 won't even get you half a months rent in the bay area, you need to move inland with that...

Well I can tell you there are lots of hippies that live in Berkley, just outside of San Francisco. Not sure if you are going to find a good samaritan to live with for 800 bucks, but Berkley is definitely your hippie destination.

San Fransisco, but $800 bucks won't rent you a room there! Move more inland to get cheaper.

You're about 25 years too late. But I guess you can come close in Santa Cruz.
