YOU would then be in control over the amount you pay for your Fed. taxes. The taxes you would pay would be determined by the cost of the consumer item. If you didn't want to pay the higher tax on a $200 pair of shoes you would have the choice of choosing a $25 pair with the lower tax.

Your courteous opinions appreciated.

John - Thanks. I'm in Georgia, already informed and I am a supporter of the Fair Tax.

dejavu - I'm aware Fed. taxation is not a law. I have posted this link many times it starts out as research and much more is revealed. Watch it all, it is very interesting and also verydisturbing, (scary):

ABSOLUTELY. This way we would have some control. The big consumers with more money to spend would continue to spend it. People to live paycheck to paycheck would have more money to spend according to their income not for politicians pet projects, projects to appeal to their own constituents to win votes. Foods, not luxury prime rib, lobster and wealthy peoples food, should not be taxed. I'm talking what the AVERAGE person eats, excluding junk food.

I think I understand the tax you are explaining. The problem with that tax is that it unfairly taxes those at the bottom of the economic scale. If you don't make much money, there is no "choice" in buying the cheaper item and a higher percentage of your income goes to pay taxes because a higher percent of your income is going to buy essentials. I live in a state where we don't tax things like clothes and food and I think that is good because it unfairly taxes the poor.

The tax you describe is a regressive tax. I think everyone should pay a fair share, I just don't think unfairly taxing the poor is the way to set up our tax system.

Certainly. I am a firm supporter of the Fair Tax, introduced into Congress by John Linder of Georgia. He and Neal Bortz wrote a book called "The Fair Tax".

Google "Fair Tax". You will find all the information you will ever need. If you study it you will be a supporter too.

Fair tax is a Republican trick to remove the progressive tax that is the law. Affluent taxpayers would merely use expense accounts to pay their purchases and avoid any tax. I guess you think Republicans want to 'save' Social Security too.
