I have always lived along the south east coast, around trees, rivers, lakes, ponds and I love the outdoors. Fishing has always been my favorite passtime but I just generally love to be outdoors. My children were born and raised around the ocean and I'm trying to decide if I should take a job in Vegas. HELP!!!

Go, they have the great outdoors there, it will just be a chage of pace ... you will be close to Red Rocks, where I have camped a lot and I think it is very beautiful... many people helicopter in there for their wedding photos... There is the lake as many people say, the hoover damn tour is really cool, you could even take in a few shows here and there at the Casino's... The airport is right in downtown Vegas so you can fly anywhere you want...

The first time that I went out west, it was a culture shock. After Texas, there were no more trees and no more blacks. But, there were a lot of Mexicans and authenic Mexican food taste great. I really missed all the greenery, but eventually I started enjoying it. The mountains soar really high out west, and there are antelope and bighorn sheep. Lake Meade is a huge recreational area in southern Utah/ Nevada although I did see fish in the rivers of Nevada up around Reno once. All of the beautiful cocktail waitresses should keep you from missing home too much.

Las Vegas is a desert. It is chocked with traffic. There are some trees but there is NO dense vegetation. There is a huge lake with little vegetation around it. It gets God awful HOT! If you go fishing during the summer, you can stay out on the shore only until around ten o'clock AM due to the heat. There is a huge amount of moraless people living there and your kids would be learning about life from their kids. The grass in parks there is so tuff it cuts your bare feet. I lived there for one year many years ago. I moved back home. After my children are grown I may move back. But not until then.

They have a huge lake there. Lake Mead. It was created by Hoover Dam. www.nps.gov/lame Also there is Mount Charleston in the Toyabe National Forest about 35 miles away. Lots of trees there. The weather is great and there is a lot to do but it is a BIG city now.
