I have a Basic Optical Mouse 1.0 A from Microsoft and it doesn't work like it should. Sometimes the red light shuts down and the mouse stops responding (the cursor won't move). I've reinstall Windows, so it's not because of the other mouse drivers installed previously. And I don't think it's because of the mouse pad either...

it sounds like the mouse or the usb port is going bad. i would buy a new mouse to see if the mouse is going bad. if the new mouse dose the same thing then it is the ports.

It's worth checking what the others have pointed out, but also be sure it's not the mouse pad. I've had problems with MS wired optical mice having a hard time sensing the reflections from some pads.

Try disconnecting the mouse from the USB port and connecting it to another.

right click on my computer/properties/hardware/device manager/in modem check when you plug the mouse does it it apear their or not ,if not their is problem in usb drive of mouse
