it's legal.
sounds like a book. He divorces after 25 years. keeps the life insurance active. dates an unstable woman and talks about how much better their life would be if she would croak. wife #2 kills wife #1. The insurance is paid and then he turns in wife #2 as the murderer. He gets to keep the money and all the women in his life are gone.

You cannot have life insurance on anyone. There has to be a reason if the person is not married or related to you. A business partner can get life insurance on the other business partner because there is a vested interest. Banks or lending institutions get life insurance policies on people who take out loans.
It does not sound as if your father has a vested interest in your mother. Does she owe him money? Is it in the divorce agreement.
You cannot collect from a life insurance policy if you are responsible for the death, suspect or convicted. A questionable death will be or should be contested by the life ins company. No benefits will/should be paid until the death and circumstances are thoroughly investigated. Ask Scott Peterson.

Legally, anyone can get a life insurance on whoever the want to insure. In recent years, some states began regulating that practice. But still your father can get a policy on anyone he wants, as long as he pays for it.
However, ask your mother to speak to the police if she has any suspicion that there is a plot or threat against her life. But getting a life insurance on her, is not enough evidence of "intention to commit a crime".

Yes he can. As long as she agrees to it. I'm in the same situation. All though divorced, she's still the mom of my kids...we both agree that they need to be cared for if either or both pass away. It's something few people think of.
As far as the evil woman, I think you're taking the typical angry child posture. Try to be more accepting. As you get older, things will get better.
I hope all this helps. :)

i don't think he can have life insurance on your mom, and 2 if his fiance/girlfriend/ whatever you call her, does anything to your mom and the police or insurance prove it he won't get any more for the life insurance policy. you have to die naturally or in like a car accident, but i don't think he could collect if she was killed on purpose.

if he had the policy prior to the divorce. then I guess he could if he is still paying the preiums. just sound wierd to do somthing like that. I would atleast tell your mom about it and she can take whatever steps she wants.

Since he is div. from your mom, no he can not. He would have to get a independent life ins. policy ( individual) in order to get her one. Other wise it would be illegal through a bus he works for, (you SD that is just retired, so he either has cobra, or a package that allows him to have his ins still, but even if that is the case...he can not have her on his)

I've never heard of an insurance company turning down money.
You can probably insure your neighbor's pet canary, if you wish.
