Mike, Tele's have nice fingerboards and easy to play.. If your playing country, the telecaster can be the guitar of choice.. Rock, you might want to consider a stratocaster. I play various styles. Have guitars for jazz, funk/blues, country. No beginner though. Go to Musicians Friend.com and check out there prices.. If you have a guitar center nearby, ask them.. Don't be pressured to buy right away.. Look around.. 500.00 really isn't a lot these days, but you can still purchase a decent guitar for yourself. When your done buying.. check out VisionMusic.com.. Great site for learning or even advanced players.. Good luck!

There are lots of good guitars, great prices, out there on ebay. I have bought 5. My favorite is a telecaster. Telecasters only weigh about 8 lbs. Makes it east to play hold for long periods. Les Pauls are very heavy.

You may be able to buy a used Telecaster for less than $500, but if you buy one they are good, the other guitars that are good for under $500 are; Epiphone, Ibanez, some Gibson SGs(that are good for rock), Yamaha, and such!!

im a intermediate guitar player and i find guitar hero games more difficult than playing the real guitar. for one, you have six strings on a guitar, where as the game has 5 buttons. the game actually has you moving your finger further when you play single notes than actually playing real guitar. where a note on a real guitar might have you just fretting a lower or higer string. the game makes you fret a button that further. i like playing chords on the game. in that, it does feel like your actually playing chords. another thing is that you dont really have to look at a screen when playing a real guitar. so you do need more hand eye cordination to play the game. the songs in the game are set up pretty good. its not just random button presses, the game does have repeatable patterns. its defintely fun. its just easier to play real guitar.

telecasters are great guiters, real quality, but, they are best used and comminly used for blues/jazz and country music styles. Unless you are planing on playing those i would go with a stratacaster. good for all styles

since i hate popular guitar music i pray you don't join the millions of guitar player in this country. learn saxaphone, piano, anything but guitar and drums. they don't recognize he difference between between noise and music. or they prefer noise. then let them go visit a cannery or a big metal fabrication plant when the hungar for loud noise arises. phooey on your "nice" guitar. my short answer is forget it.
