The only story that comes to mind, is that of Jean Lafitte, a pirate during the time of the Louisiana Purchase. Ironically, my great, great, great grandfather was among Jean's crew, and did not tell any of his decendants where the treasure was buried along the coast of Louisiana, since his sworn allegence to Jean LaFitte over his own blood lines, out of fear that his family would be killed.

yes, I was an employee of the multnomah falls lodge in the Columbia river gorge in 1975. there is a bridge going over the lower falls as you can see in the link I sent you below. often I would spend my off time there. I noticed people throwing coins off the bridge to watch them disappear into the falls. then I noticed coins stuck in the rocks that did not make it to the falls pool. I talked to the maintenance man living at the lodge and he had been there 40 plus years. he always knew of people throwing coins off the bridge but had not given it much thought. I asked if he had ever seen any divers go in there, he said no, the falls pool is very deep. the lodge was built in 1925 if memory serves me correct. I have often thought there was a treasure waiting there for someone. this was 1975 so some one may have thought of a way to get them out. hope this was the kind of story you were looking for.
