That is the beauty of using MSCONFIG. Just go back into it, and look for the Antivirus sections that you UNCHECKED. AHHH, you should only be messing with the STARTUP section.
Here are some of the things to look for. Just CHECK THESE for Norton Antivirus:
ccApp
ccRegVfy
UsrPrompt

It's simple. Follow these steps.
1. Go to msconfig again.
2. Check all the cleared boxes and restart the system.
3. Now Norton should work fine.
4. If you need to remove startup items, you can do so by removing one at a time and restart the computer. This way you'll never disable a required program.
Good luck !!

msconfig is a much overrated windows utility and should be avoided; use winpatrol as advised to control your start up applications or a tool called autoruns - it's free and requires no installation. Just double click it and it will show all the programmes that start with windows
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/AutoRuns/autoruns.html
select the "logon" tab and tick the box next to the entry for Norton - that's it....

Look for it in your programs list and try opening it from there, that should make it reappear in msconfig and you can tick it in the startup list.
And then try using Winpatrol instead of msconfig, you're much less likely to switch off the wrong thing and its no trouble to restart them again if you do.

Start > Run > MS Config > Startup
there would be 2 entries which would have symantec in them.
Check both the entries and reboot and your symnatec would be up and running again.
