This is a 2000 Grand Prix with a 3800 engine.I got the "Service Engine Soon Light" and getting code P0300. This means engine random cylinder misfires. Now the light is flashes for a while and then stops flashing. Also the engine is rough and power is low when I try to accelerate.

The fuel pressure oscillate between 65 and 70 PSI is higher than the book said even after replacing the pressure regulator. While replacing the fuel regulator I found a lot of sediment in the regulator and the housing.

Now this happen before a month a ago without the engine blinking and an almost empty fuel tank. But after filling a the tank the engine run very good and it ran great for a while.

- Today I run the car it was running rough at the begining. I also got the blinking light. Then it started to run fine. I took it to the freeway I punched the accelerator an the car run fine again. I wanted to take it to the dealer but they probably can't find anything wrong now. Also, I don't think this is affecting the catalitic converter since the miss fire come from lean mixture and there is not backfires.

When the engine misfires get bad enough to dammage the cat converter the light flashes. You have to get to the bottom of this soon or buy expensive emission parts. My GTP would throw this code when the egr valve stayed slightly open because of carbon on it. But in your case it might be 6 fuel injectors time. Replace the fuel filter just ahead of the left rear wheel often too. Cannot have sediment up in the fuel rail. Fuel trim readings and freeze frame data will tell if the engine is actuall running lean. as will a p0171 code

The service engine light means that the computer has received an input which is out of range or missing. It will set a default code in the computer which can be retrieved and the problem is often pinpointed to a specific component which then can be tested.

A flashing light usually means you are doing catastrophic damage to your catalytic converter - a very expensive repair that could have been avoided if you had dealt with the misfire problem when it first occurred.

A tank of bad gas also can trip a code. So can filling my tank while the engine is running, never a good idea anyway.
