The following is from the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.
Moralist: " one who leads a moral life or one who is concerned with the moral actions of others. "
Atheist: "One who denies the existence of God."
Now one could assume that an atheist might still have some moral code that governs behaviors. Not being an atheist, I can not attest to that belief.

a moralist? Hm...I think It's a teacher or student of morals; the one who's concern for morals of others.
Note:moral means relating to character and human behaviour.
Sorry but I think there's no such word "athesit". Maybe you're referring about "atheist"-well it means belief in nonexistence of God.

Marriam- Webster said this about the word Moralist:
1 : one who leads a moral life
2 : a philosopher or writer concerned with moral principles and problems
3 : one concerned with regulating the morals of others
Also with regard to an Atheist it simply said:
"one who believes that there is no deity"
I've also heard it to include one that is against or opposes or hates belief in god. (Admittedly, that's a little more stronger position)

Statistically, they're somewhat synonymous.
Moralists lead a moral life.
Atheists deny the existence of God.
10% of the people in the USA are atheists but only 0.5% of the people in jail are atheists.
Therefore, atheists are 20X more moral than the general population.

Well if you meant an antheist that is someone who doesn't believe in God and a moralist is someone who teaches better morals.

-ist means "one who does" So a moralist is "one who does morals" (I know it's worded funny, but you get the idea) Atheist is further broken down to A (not) thei (theology, God, etc.) ist (one who does) so, it means (roughly) one who does not do theology/God.
