Yes my last name, it is of eastern european origin a typical Ukranian name, very easy to spell and read but people in UK just cannot get it there are 3 or 4 variations that I always get. If someone gets in right for example a sales person on the phone, I might even listen to what they have to say / sell...

One time, it took a supply teacher five tries to say my first name right, it was painful, and she was half-deaf so when I told it to her, she just got more confused. No one else has ever had a problem with it. My last name, however, is the problem because no one knows that if there's a vowel, two consonents, and then an e, the e does absolutely nothing. My last name ends in "enne," which should sound like "en," but people always pronounce it "een," unless of course they can read properly. There was a dumb teacher who said "een" at my high school graduation. I had even told him the correct pronunciation beforehand. (I'm done complaining for the day).

My name is Anne Marie. This. Should. Not. Be. Hard. Anne + Marie = An Muh ree.
No one has ever read my name out loud and pronounced it correctly. Ever. I am always "Annie Marie" or "Anna Marie." AGH.
Oh, and I never ask how to pronounce names I don't know, because either I get it, or I am corrected. People I know with really truly hard names only think I'm rude if I ask without at least putting a little effort into trying to stumble through it.

Yep. My first name is Kerryn and it's pronounced exactly the same as herron but with a 'K' at the beginning (obviously) and I've had people call me: Keiran, Karen, Kerry, Kylie and Kelly! Everything BUT my actual name! It's rude though. If people don't know how to pronounce it, they should ask.

My last name is Germanic. It is easily mispronounced and that is one method I use to determine if a telemarketer is calling. The kids at school sure had fun kidding me.

So sorry someone call you by different name. Tell them not to call you by that name.
When I was small it was difficult to remember names because of the chinese name. So we call ourselves apple, orange or pear. You may want to try any of these names - it works!
