Living in a country which is ridden with extremely violent crimes, I mostly feel that they should bring back the death penalty. But in recent light of events (Saddam) it makes me wonder if I might be wrong...

If you were among the thousands of people Saddam affected with his orders to kill, I'm sure your prospective would be different.

When they are a cold blooded murderer they deserve the same as they give. Not just time in the slammer where they have three meals a day and recreation. I don't think all crimes should apply the death penalty but certainly someone who took a life with no regard. A car wreck by a drunk driver is a terrible thing but I don't feel it is the same as just pointing a gun or setting someone on fire or just mutilating or torturing a person to death. As for stealing, I think the eye for an eye thing is a good policy, maybe cut off a finger the first time, the second maybe the thumb too, the third time the whole hand would be justified. As for rape, well castration would certainly apply here! It should be mandatory for them to carry their removed tool of torture around with them as a reminder of there life's accomplishment. Maybe as a dried, dehydrated or petrified token or trophy to keep in there pocket or an a necklace!
Child molesters Hhhuuummmm, that is running neck & neck with the death penalty in my opinion. I think physical abuse should be punishable by letting the victim or there family physically abuse the guilty party as a lesson of the way it feels to be hit or humiliated like that.
There are so many ways to teach the criminals today that they will be held accountable. Maybe it would send a strong message to the bad people out there that they will get more than thrown in a cell with a cot & 3 hots a day. Something has got to be done & we have to start somewhere soon!!!!!

The simple answer is-never as someone has to administer and be responsible for administering the 'penalty' Saddam's execution was a farce. It was undignified and inexcusable. That is not to detract from the fact that he was a power- mad dictator who murdered thousands of innocents. The point is,, the minute the State condones state execution we all become implicit murderers. This is anti Christian doctrine.
It is not a weak position to oppose the death penalty-it is a position of strength; or are we all fans of the Old Testament adage 'an eye for an eye'? All very well, but what does it really accomplish and where does it stop? Non of us is God, none of us have the right to take an independently living human being's life. And I can reconcile myself to this position even though I am an agnostic pro-choicer...

I f Saddam didn't deserve it in your mind then nobody will. A person who has shown the propensity for killing innocent people should not be around to harm others. It is expensive to incarcerate them for 50 years . And it isn't fair to the victim that their killer get an all expense paid life with a gym ,cable TV,full health benefits and many social programs. I think a condemned person should get one year to prove their innocence and then the sentence should be carried out. Saddam's hanging looked very humane to me. Even with the taunting. He didn't know what hit him and he felt no pain.

Sadaam gassed over 100,000 Kurds to death. Haven't you seen the video? Babies in their mothers arms lying dead on the streets. It looks like an open-air version of Hitler's death camps.
That would be the type of people for whom the death-penalty is appropriate, mass murderers, serial killers, pre-meditated child killers.

What we should NOT be doing is putting non-violent offenders in prison, ever. Prisons should be for the violent, non-violent folks should be made to work as slaves for those they hurt.

NEVER EVER RIGHT
Its murder.
If the state can murder people then what gives them the right to say other can't.

If you agree with the death penalty you agree with murder of another person. Then what makes you any different from the criminal, the murderer etc

To me, death penalty is a sin.No one should take away someone life.God says " Thaw shall not kill",so why kill.To sentence someone to death is killing.Laws are man made, but we arequestionable to the Almight, the LORD.If you can"t event kill a chicken why kill a human being.

The death penalty is never justified.

It is always justifiable. We go too easy on criminals compared to other countries. Look at Saudi Arabia. They chop off your hand if you steal, and they should. It teaches criminals a lesson. The only way to teach criminals a lesson is a hand for a hand. They also kill drug dealers, and I am glad they do, and we should do the same. Drug dealers ruin the lives of many young kids, who make one bad decision, and ruin their lives because of those bastards.
