He's an agent, so yes he is. Agents are the main problem in professional sports. They overinflate salaries so the honest, working man can't afford to take his family to see games.

Boras isnt a crook. He is a genuis. If you are looking for a crook look no further than the owners and GM's. He is getting only what they are willing to pay. I agree that baseball has become ridiculus in what they give for contracts but think of it this way...would you feel better if the owners just stuffed those 10's of millions of dollars in their own pockets. They arent paying out what they dont earn...that is real money that you and me give. They made a "market adjustment" a few years ago, remember the collusion lawsuit filed by the players association? Until the owners stop bleeding the fans the money will be there and the players will get their peice of the pie. Every one of us would like to be paid better but we dont have the ability to negotiate a contract for the most part therefore we take what the market offers...so do the agents and ballplayers!!

Boras isn't a crook he is the best at what he does. If you were a prominent ballplayer wouldn't you want to be represented by someone who would ensure you top dollar. Boras plays teams against each other unlike any other, he has a tremendous staff and unlimited resources.
The rising cost of salaries in baseball is strictly a product owner and gm's stupidity, combined with the tremendous power of the MLB Players Union. I personally cannot see signing ANY player to a deal greater than 4 years with a 5th option. While it is not structured that way (b/c of MLB players union) all the money a player makes is guaranteed. I personally would like to see a buyout clause in every contract greater that 2 years b/c I don't think us fans should suffer b/c we have the gm for our team, (like an idiot) sign a guy like Adrian Beltre to 60 million plus deal when he's only had one magical season that he will not do again until his contract is in it's final year and he knows he has to perform to get that huge contract.
I don't fault Boras at all for his tactics he is simply using all the tools at his disposal to do his job to the best of his ability.

Scott Boras is an opportunist. In fact, small-time crooks can learn from him. I mean, instead of holding up a gas station and getting thrown in jail, all you have to do is become a sports agent, represent a player and slightly dress up the truth about your player and watch in awe as the owner WILLINGLY throws millions of dollars your way. This is also a good career path for Used Car Salesmen.

I do believe that Boras is bad for baseball by overpricing players. But teams continue to bid up to his likings, so I guess owners don't have a problem with him. And next offseason will probably worst because a lot of talented players could hit the market.

i wouldnt call him a crook.....last i knew he hasnt held a gun to any owner or gm's head to get a contract signed, or held up his local 7-11 store.

some say he is the best agent in the game......its true, he often does negotiate for and get the highest possible price for his clients, however i dont think he he negotiates for his clients best interests. many of his clients end up going to teams that are not amongst their first or second choices of destinations and although they get huge paychecks, many boras clients ultimately are unhappy players.

i am still amazed that more players dont tell boras and others where they want to go and what they would like to make and take charge of the parameters, just letting the agents work on and iron out the details. the power of that dollar sign and the persuasion of boras always seems to win out........and its a damn shame.

Yes, he is a crook, but everybody is falling for him. If no GM signs one of is players, wouldn't his asking price go, down, its very simple. Look at Alex Rodriguez, being paid $25 million a year for what. He makes tons of errors at third, and isn't consistent. He just does it for more money.
You know that when a player like a-rod signs a 25 million dollar deal, scott boras is getting around 1.5 million from his deal. He claims that he got him that high of a salary, so he should get some of the money for himself. Yes indeed, his deals are overpriced, and usually not worth it.

No, you can't call him a crook, but he is making a mochrie out of baseball contracts. Teams desperatly want his clilents because most of them are the top players in the game. He is really good at what he does. He is able to manipulate teams into over-paying for guys that arn't worth half of what their getting (look at some of his clients like Kevin Brown and Adrian Beltre). Not sure how he does it, but if i did I would be doing the same thing.

Lets get this over with Arod.

he had one bad year last year defensively and all the other years were great. He is the best offensive 3b in the majors and just because he is getting 2 times more than jeter or others, dont expect him to score twice as much runs, rbis or hrs. The yankees decided to make this deal so deal wtih it!

Scott Boreas, I've never heard of.

Scott Boras is making use of the current system, to the advantage of his clients.

If you really want to pin this on anyone, look to the owners who agree to offer these contracts and sign the cheques. That's why I refer to salary caps as diapers - a way to contain the mess of collective chequebook incontinence.

Look back to the Phillies and J.D. Drew mess from a few years ago. Boras was his agent. That was my first sign that he was a bad guy. Of course, if the owners decided not to deal with his clients, MLB would be hit with a collusion lawsuit. I'm afraid that we're stuck with him and others like him.
