I have duel citizenship. I have met dumb, smart, rude, and polite people all around the globe. I don't believe dumb or rude people are contained to one country. I believe if you think this you are a bit ignorant and need to get out more.

Is it really America bashing? Or is it that some people have the courage to point out what is wrong with their country as well as what is right about it?

There are some really great things about this country, and I am proud of them, but we can do better and should.

My problem with a lot of the "America is Great" people, is that they say it by rote, they don't actually know because most of them have never been to another country. It's like a person who has only ever had peach pie saying peach pie is the best there is, it's just words with no proof.

I have traveled a lot, so when I talk about my country being both good and bad, I speak from experience. You are right, dumb, rude people are not confined to any one country, but we American are among the top 10 as the worlds worst tourists. We have toppled governments because we didn't like the way they wanted to run their country while treating a large portent of our own people just as bad. We have given money to bad governments because they had a product we wanted. We give tax breaks to companies who make record profits. We sell off our commons to companies who do not give anything back.

Does any of this make me not want to be an American? No, because I still believe that if the people in this country want to we can do better.

Well maybe it is that before the insurgency began over 20,000 Iraqi CIVILIANS were murdered. That should be enough eye for an eye for anybody. Oh but wait a minute. It wasn't the Iraqi's that blew up the world trade center. So it's just plain murder. People don't usually like murderers.
This is supposed to be one nation under God. Yes the same God who said to love thy enemies and turn the other cheek when you are hit. They say they follow Jesus but Jesus was very unequivical on that point.
It all stems from our greed and money lust. We have become a nation where there is only one law (Obtain as much money as you can at any cost) and one value (Money)! We are so transparent in our money lust that most of the world is intelligent enough to see thru all of the propaganda and rhetoric. Americans sadly are not. It is so painfully obvious to anyone not blinded and brainwashed by high talking. People around the world judge us by what we do and not what we say. After trying on several reasons for our invasion of Iraq, that all were proven false, Bush finally just said Saddam was a bad guy and should go. It's obvious that there are many more much worse bad guys in Africa right now commiting genocide, that if that is the reason for invading a country, there were many more countries that were more worthy of invasion that Iraq.
Ah but where is the oil in those countries? There is none and therefore no invasion.
So the answer to your question is that the rest of the world judges us on what we do and why we do it. They believe that actions speak louder than words. They see that our actions are motivated by the greed of our leaders and the people they are connected to or controlled by. In essence they see that we are just greedy hypocrites. People don't normally like greedy hypocrites.
So if you want to learn to use good critical judgement first examine what people do and then research and analyse why they are doing it. In other words discover their true motivation for their actions.
In the case of the US the leaders, they finally said they invaded Iraq because the leader was a bad person. If that is the reason you SAY you invaded a country and they are many countries who have leaders who are behaving far worse than the one you invaded, then that proves that your reason is a lie!
When you determine that someone is lying then you have to look for the truth. In this case look at the first thing the US guarded when they invaded Iraq. It wasn't the cities. Remember the looting and the murdering. It was the oil pipelines. You guard what is most valuable to you.
You also look at the Bush family history and Chaneys' history. The Bush family always has been about big oil. Chaney is about Halliburton. Remember the 2 to 3 BILLION dollars that Halliburton has been awarded that has not been accounted for? Gee folks that a lot of money where I come from. They also got a bunch of NO BID contracts. Sweet!
I could go on for ever but I think you get the idea. The hatred from the rest of the world is justified because they can see that we as a nation are obviously behaving badly. Simple.

It's the tourists. When you go abroad you are an ambassador for your country. British people are looked down upon too. We have these salivating, ignorant football (soccer to some of you) yobs who travel abroad with the sole purpose of raising hell, getting drunk, kicking the s hit out of the other team's supporters and that's what people see so they base their judgement of british people on a very small minority of people. It's the same with american tourists, people base their judgement of americans on what they have seen with their own eyes. One time I took my husband to see Edinburgh castle as he is English and had never seen it. There were some extremely rude american tourists there who were very loud, obnoxious and who pretty much spoiled the whole day for all the visitors. So people would have come away from that experience thinking "that's americans" do you see what I mean? It's always a small minority who spoil things for everyone.

Y!A is like the tides... during the hours that most of America is sleeping, the bashing goes on. Once we all wake up and they are sleeping, it goes the other way.

Also, it's fashionable to hate Americans now. Most of the world would rather we didn't exist... until they need something, then we'd better be there at their beck and call.

People bash Americans because they really love us. They know what would happen if America were to draw ALL their troops and money and keep them at home. So like little kids, they bash us, to get attention. In America, this is knows as ADO, "American Deficient Disorder."
