berlin is positively bursting with places to visit!!
the tour i generally take friends in when they visit for the weekend is -potdamerplatz/sony centre then take a walk upto the reichstag and brandenburg gate taking in the new jewish memorial. from there a walk up to friedrichstrasse and checkpoint charlie via unter den linden. from checkpoint charlie go on up to alexanderplatz for the tv tower....always nice to go up on a clear day to get an amazing view of the city and to have a revolving restaurant experience! that way you've taken in a good few of the major sights.
berlin is a huge city and you'll only touch the surface over a weekend, but if you have longer then there are many good museums on museum island, checkpoint charlie, jewish museum, topography of terror.... the list is endless and the russian memorial at treptower park is just stunning.
potsdam just outside berlin is worth a visit if you like palaces and rolling grounds.

I was in Berlin in May 2006 just before the FIFA World Cup. There is a lot of construction going on, it's a city where modern steel and glass towers stand together with centuries old buildings. The city is also quite sprawled out with attractions all over the place so expect to use the rail service a lot. Thank goodness they have a great public transit system. I would highly recommend visisting the Museum Insel or Island where there are at least 5 major museums you can visit. Nefertiti's famous bust can be found at the Altes Museum (Old Museum). But be warned, some of the museums may be closed due to major renovations. They are completely revitalizing the entire island. Also drop by the Brandenburg Gate then stroll down the Under Den Linden street where you will find many sights to see. The Berlin Zoo is quite large and amazing. I also recommend taking a quick sightseeing bus tour of Berlin when you first get there to get yourself orientated and then you can pick the places that you want to see more closely.

They have rebuilt that city extensively now since it is the capital again.
Brandenburg gate is a popular tourist attraction, watch out they are still trying to sell small pieces of the old wall ,who knows where they got the concrete from though. The trains are punctual to the minute there so dont be late!

if you are a married man and your wife and kids are with you i would think a pleasure park. if you are a married woman but you left your husband and kids at home i would think of supermarkets. if you are a single male i would think of the pubs and the local zoo. if you are a single woman i would think of beauty salons and fashion stores.
