I have an R reg escort which is a bit of a dog! When Idling the engine seems to miss every now and again (well alot) that sends a bit of a shockwave to the whole car...also, when I am driving it, the whole thing seems non responsive when I put my foot down until the turbo kicks in, and when it does, the car veers to the right and when I ease off, the car veers back to the right! Has anyone got any ideas on the above two problems. Oh, and it seems to smoke quite alot too!

If this is the same engine they used in the probe turbo , your doggy problem may be your waist gate on the turbo not closing or turbo is locked up, the turbo is most likely the first thing to check because it can make one smoke and idle rough to.If it is engine wear its cheeper to get a reman long block than to rebuild that one. Plugs and wires will probably help for a while, to get you by.
needs front end work at a shop to.

Steering needs tracked. Smoking and missing sounds like valve stem oil seals, possible burnt out valve.

Pull out the plugs and see if they are coveredin oil. If they are I'd stick it up on ebay and stick a new set of plugs in before the buyer comes and just get rid.

Be more than the cars worth to start working on.

Before taking it to your local scrap yard have some fun.Use it for banger racing. If the car automatically veers to the right when you put your foot down you won't have any trouble getting around the track as they go clockwise anyway.

Your car veers off because one or both of your bottom wishbones is worn out.The missing could be lots of things, start with a fuel cleaner.
