It's "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling!

One of the best fictious in modern time era! Not such obsolete fiction from medieval or pre-industrial age.... It's here and now!! And plus, the story is still being developed. We're part of history here! This masterpiece will surely go down in history!!

Second option would be "the Godfather" by Mario Puzo.

Another fantastic fiction from modern era! To tell you truth, I'll never forget Vito Corleone's infamous quotes: "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse" and "I'll reason with him". Wonderful masterpiece and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to read wonderful fiction about crime world from the 20st century!

It draws me in half with the idea of fiction. I have one for pleasure, as well as one for life lessons.

The life lessons in Philosophy Made Simply by Robert Hellenga are easily understood when being seen through the eyes of the main character. Many words of wisdom are quoted in the book, as well as them used in the problems of the characters life. You subconciously learn the lessons while following the adventure through odd twists and turns keeping the reader on the edge.

Really taking you away to another world is one of Cornelia Funke's amazing abilities. The adventures of Inkheart and Inkspell tell about a world where the characters in books have a life outside the plot. The characters are realistic and yet take you away from everything in real life to show you the wonder that reading can bring.

"PRESUMED INNOCENT' or is it "presumed Innocence"? anyway I am an avid fiction reader, I read everyday, but no matter how many great books I read, something about this one always brings me back. i suupose b/c I am a lawyer I a natrually drawn to Legal/ Courtroom/Thrillers. This work was awesome, the charachters had everything a protagonist and antagonist msut have, the book had suspense, kept you on the edge pf your seat, turning page after paget awake all night. The writign wa terrfifc, the plot and layersings of the plot & subplot always keot the reader guessing. The twist, surprise ending, having his own wife turn out to be the kliller was brilliant, she set it up with such finesse, and then he get indicted for the murder of an ex lover/co worker, we learn at teh end that had he been convicted (Rusty Savage) then the wife would have come forward. her motive was so intriguing, it was not to get even with him or to get revenge for the affair. She was so tired of feeling inferior to the lady D.A. screwing her husband that she master minded the perfect crime, she did an excellent job laying the groundwork with the glasses, phoen calls, oh and oure genious, his sperm injected into her. He looked guilty as hell and he continued to unintentionally make the case against his even better, by bot ordering his prints to checked, asking that the PI conceal some phone records (not becasue he was guilty of the murder, but to protect his wife) he did not want to subject her to the pain & hurt of the affair again by the constant renminder in the court roon of his cintinued phone calls to the ex-lover after reconcilling with the wife, inbekniowst to him, it was his wife who made that call, further inplicating him as the killer. I could go on forever, this was just great bok, one of those rare thrillers that actually manages to fool you, keep you guessing, and to discover the true killer, no one you would ever have expected, but not a scapegoat, patsy, a main charachter with pure motivation. Anyone who has not read this (it has been around for 20 years probably, was also made into a major motion pictire starrign harrison Ford. A must read for anyone who eats up suspense/dramam/mrder/who dun it? this had it all compelling charachters, believable, conflict after conflict, twist after turn , want, need, deire, and the jackkpot pay out ending/ If you some how missed this . read it, it you read it 5 10 years ago, give it abother whirl, it ha snot lsot any alure with it age, its rates among the best ever

It's difficult to pick one as best ever...there are so many great books. But after I read Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickins, I thought to myself, "Wow, that's got to be the best book ever written." :)

The Bible. A hodgepodge of unknown authors (who didn't exactly save their work on computers), passed down, retold, translated and retranslated and revised that still has more believers and followers thousands of years later. Now that's a success story.
