Camilla and the Prince of Wales first met at a Windsor polo match in 1970. The following year, Charles joined the Royal Navy.
They became great friends but there was no marriage offer and Camilla, tired of waiting for Charles to ask her to marry him married cavalry officer Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973.
It's rumoured that Camilla helped Charles to choose a suitable wife - Lady Diana Spencer.

Prince Charles had always loved Camilla. Camilla was already married that time when he was married but they still had the thing for each other. If I'm not mistaken, I remember Princess Diana said, "There are three of us in this marriage - Charles, Camilla, and I." If I also remember well, I think it was Charles' parents, the Queen and Prince Philip, who suggested the match. Well, now that Princess Diana has passed away and that Camilla is a divorcee, she and HRH Charles finally got what they wanted. They were finally wed in a civil ceremony (they didn't have a church ceremony since the church looks down upon divorcees remarrying) and lived happily together ever since. Now the Prince of Wales has Camilla Parker-Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall.

Well, I think Diana tried and tried and nailed her man! Charles married her and I don't know if you saw the interview after they engaged, but the Interviewer asked Are you in love? Diana said, 'Yes, of course' and Charles said 'yes, whatever love means'
Hmmm....very telling even back then.
Anyway his heart was always on Camilla and the marriage got rocky then it became like a battle between them of who could get the public to believe that it was they who had been hard done by and cheated on. He was away with Camilla and she was with her men on the side.
And tragically the marriage failed and Diana died. God, that was a bad day.
So, it wasn't an arranged marriage I just think Diana was shrewd in getting her man.
Oh and yep, a lot of delving into the past of future princesses is carried out and they must be a virgin otherwise there could be a big story in the newspapers written by ex lovers and that would look bad on the Royals.
Hope that helps a bit.

In truth and honesty, Diana was even more royal than Charles, being descended from King Charles I. IN FACT, Prince William will be the first Monarch to be descended from him in hundred's of years, although through an illegitimate daughter. NO ONE ever questioned the entitlement of Diana's birth, not once in the press. They questioned everything else about her, but not her background.
Prince Charles probably would have married Camilla "Park Your B*lls" but she had 2 problems going for her in the 1970's.
#1 - She wasn't royal enough. She was the great granddaughter of the mistress to the King. And the first time she ever met Charles she is reported to have said, "my grandmother used to **** your grandfather, how about we get it together?" They fell in love in no time. Her great-grandmother was left very well off and even today, they are still spending the money she was left.
#2 - Camilla ACTUALLY got tired of waiting for Charles and married Andrew Parker-Bowles before Charles had a chance to ask. Isn't that too sad? What alot of rubbish could have been saved and perhaps more people would have found it in their hearts to have liked her!

Camilla was married when he wed Dianna. Although the so-called virginity clause for royal wives in archaic nowadays - they like to make sure there is no scandal attached to them or their families (i.e. Sarah "Fergie" and her dad). Yes, it was an arranged marriage between Charles & Dianna. She comes from an old established ruling class family. (Her father was an Earl and had inherited a large estate from his father). Her maternal grandmother was one of the Queen Mum's ladies-in-waiting when she and King George ruled. The Royals and the aristocracy are a very old incentious group that go back hundreds of years (both legitimate and illegitimate).

Yes, you are right Diana was from royalty, and Camilla wasn't.
Charles had always loved Camilla but would have been forbidden to marry her, that's why they stayed close for all those years and eventually they ended up together.

Camilla was not a virgin, not from a high family, and considered not very suitable at that time.
