You have to understand. This was a movie series that people grew up with. Parents accepted the previous two movies and many were allowed to go see ROTJ freely. Now, it wasn't a rated R flick or anything, but after the first 2 movies, no one knew Princess Leia had curves or even skin. Hormones ran amok in theatres around the country with just that one scene.
Heck, she was already the fantasy of millions without taking off her clothes in 2 movies. What did you think would happen, when she did?
