The dorm is a good transition place for you to find your independence, think about your own place latter on. There is safety in numbers. You'll have enough to worry about adjusting to school without the added responsibility of an apartment. Good Luck to you in school, study hard!

The first year it is best to live in a dorm. It allows you to understand where you're going to college, interact with the students that are attending with you, and create friendships that will carry you through your college years (after all, they're moving out for the first time too!)

In fact, some colleges have stipulations that prohibit you from living "off campus" your first year, so I would definitely check in to that.

All in all though - I would live in a dorm your first year - it really isn't as bad as it sounds, and it helps.

Depends on how far away college is. Mine was 3 miles away, I lived in my own home, bought and paid for.
