The official time for a pro team is 3 - 20 minute periods or 60 minutes. However taking time between periods, penalties, overtimes in case of a tie, etc. the game will last a couple of hours or more.

in the nhl..there are 3 20 minute periods..so already thats one hour..then there are 2 20 minute breaks..so that adds up to 1 hour and 40 mins..plus the time used when a referee blows the whistle..when the fans are standing up cheering after a goal..and when people are looking over the tapes to see if it was a goal or not..its usually anywhere from 2 hours and 15 mins to 3 hours. Not in the nhl tho..i wouldnt know..some leagues have 12 minute periods and five minute breaks or something..but thats it for the nhl. Also in the nhl there might be a tie by the end of 3rd period..so they may have to go into overtime which is an extra five minutes..and if there is no score in overtime there could be a shoot out and nobody know when those can end..usually it does not go over three hours though.

There's 3-20 minute periods. There's 4 t.v. timeouts during each period for about 90 seconds each. Also 2-15 minute intermissions between the first 2 periods. An average Hockey game is about 2 and a half hours.

3 periods of 20 minutes clean time, which means that the clock stops every time the play is stopped. minis/welps will sometimes play 4 periods of 15 minutes. so either way, the playing time lasts 60 minutes. then there's usually a 5 minute break and a 15 minute break in between periods.

I'm an NHL season ticket holder and actual game time is 60 minutes (plus possible OT and shootout) but in real time. Assuming it does not go to OT or a shootout I'd say around 2 and 1/2 hours but if it goes all the way to shootout it is closer to 3 hrs.

3 periods, 20 minutes each. So, basically 60 minutes, 2 intermissions and possibly a 5-minute overtime.

3 20 minute periods then it can go into 5 minute 4-on-4 overtime then possibly a shootout which can go forever if they don't score
