I don't stop myself. It's okay to cry. No sense in trying to stop how you feel.

Don't, just excuse yourself find a quiet place and enjoy your right (and ability) to express feelings. The body hurts us (pain) to alert us to the fact something is wrong. We laugh, cry,Reverie, just to release emotions and reflect on the problem. And the body needs to be allowed to do this. Not knowing the situation I have to ask, why would you start to cry in front of a (group) of people? If it's stage fright let the tears flow and say something funny about being nervous. If someone has / is hurting you tell them they are tears of anger and you think its best for them to leave as you may lose control. (that one works for me) but once I reach the point of angry tears it truly is best for people to vacate my space. :)..Carry a bottle of eye drops and a little compact in your purse/backpack whatever, after a good cry before you return get the red out and dab a little make-up under eyes. After it's all said and done go have yourself a GOOD breakdown, you earned it. Good Luck and enjoy your emotions.
P.S. I was taught not to cry (sign of weakness) many years ago I received some very disturbing news (personal), I have yet to cry, but I have a arsenal of meds to make me feel better, combat depression and so fourth. So please if you need to cry DO so .

Usually, I just concentrate. I can do a lot of things by auto suggestion. I simply tell myself 'you're not going to cry' and the tears retreat. If I don't succeed that way (which is rare), I take a deep breath, close my eyes and space out, trying to think about something totally different.

I can't. It doesn't seem ok to do this in front of teachers, employers, etc. It seems manipulative and deliberate or weak. I'm only answering so I can watch for good answers. I'll try several of these. Keep answering people! Help!

I just think of something pleasant and it is gets better until I am able to just be some place alone and then I can cry without people judging me, or trying to tell me it is not that bad when they really don't know how bad I feel at times. :)

I bite the piss out of my tongue, and I used to have to wear a rubber band around my wrist because I would get extremely angry at people over little things, some times nothing, so when I would get upset or angry I'd pop the rubber band against my wrist and it would surprisingly keep me from blowing my lid

Pinch/squeeze the bridge of your nose with your thumb and forefinger for a few moments.

Doing that is also good to prevent yourself from sneezing.
