I had a very good reply to my question, but some how lost it! I attempted to clean my stainless knives, forks, spoons etc. with "Barkeepers Friend". It left a light, powdery residue that I can not remove! I can scratch it with my fingernail and it moves, but using steel wool or other tarnish removers won't budge it! Someone PLEASE help! The set was passed on to me. It's at least 15 years old. I'll be looking for an answer. I didn't know there was a time limit.

Easy pleasy. Take the set down to a stainless polishing outfit. It'll cost a little scratch, about 50 bucks give or take but they will easily restore the whole set for you because they have all the right equipment to do it. You will probably have to re-sharpen the knives but it'll be done right and will look like new. If I knew where you were at I could recommend someone but just look in the phone book. There's one in at least every other town.
