The main sign is your computer goes out of control. Your mouse pointer may go here and there without your involvement. Some programs may open/close automatically. These are some common signs but there can be many. The worst thing is sometimes you won't see any sign.

The solution is to use a good antivirus software, a strong firewall and a powerful anti-spyware solution. I recommend to use Avast Home Edition , Outpost Firewall and Spyware Terminator respectively. Avast and Spyware Terminator are free but you have to pay for Outpost Firewall. Moreover you can use AdAware SE Personal Edition (free) to remove adware in your computer.

With these utilities, you'll have a very solid barrier between you and the outside world. So you can forget about hackers and enjoy the best things that the web has to offer.

Good luck !!

First of all i did not get you question properly. To find yourself Hacked as a system , your email account, your website or it can even happen your online money transaction is being hacked.

I m still providing you a link that will help you out in discovering you as when a system is attacked by some trojan and being controlled remotely.

http://www.amihacked.com/index.html?code=884846&IP=192.168.1.3

I personally recomend you to see in your task manger for any unknown suspicious process is running it could be keylogger or a trojan. try looking more on process on google as it will help you know that is it a system process or other.

one more thing their are process such as svcHost.exe in the sytem that enables stable operating of your system it is a system process. Check out it must not be running as Administrator process or any other user. It can never be a system process. Same way there are other such process like explorer.exe(User process) and
system and logon.exe(system process).

Never open suspicious exe file, paint files, doc files can never have an extension, if you have clicked any such file, friend you might be in trouble. I will recommend using Firefox.

Thanku

saurabh
