In my experience travelling internationally, Americans seem to have a naive belief that the future is predictable, and they are very put out when they are surprised. After living in countries where power can be eratic, changes in government can happen over night and neighboring countries can dramatically affect your worldview, Americans seem so sheltered they almost seem like Pollyanna.....and I'm American.

That we're all rich, happy, & reached the American dream. Whatever that is. That's why so many people are trying to get here. Legally or illegally.
