I am an American, and I reached a point where I can't stand our soap operas. I don't think it is snobbish as much as you reached a point in your life where you don't want to waste your time on that kind of crap, and would rather watch programs that are dramatic, and have a greater realism, some of the things those shows talk about have more of a chance of happening, then the stories in soap operas do.

No you are not being a snob, you just dont like those kind of programmes. Personally I think the West Wing and Boston Legal are a piece of shite, so does that make me a snob against American telly shows? No! We are all different, the world would be really boring if we all watched the same shows! I think you need to get a life and stop ranting so much about British soaps. If that is all you have to moan about you must have a really boring life! Sorry!

Well I thnk all soap operas are crap and have too much of a brain to care if some idiot is having an affair with her son's girlfriend's auntie's cousin or if Mrs Brown has lost her memory due to a huge car crash! Read a damn book! Am I being ridiculously snobbish????

No,. you are not being snobbish. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I agree with you - I never watch Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale of any of the others and I just hope that foreigners watching them do not think they are typical of the British way of life.

Your normal. The soap operas even in the USA are so far off of the regular persons life they are rediculous. I used to watch the american one's as well, but when they start going past the point of believeability I can't.

The opposite happened to me. I got tired of the same old thing on American TV, especially the reality shows. I started watching reruns of HBO series (Deadwood, Sopranos, Six Feet Under) and older British shows (The Office, Coupling, Prime Suspect, Cold Feet, etc.).
I guess my point is that many shows are derivatives -- knock offs of other popular shows. Your viewing pleasure is bound to increase if you change to a different country or different point in time.
So, you are are normal in my book!

all of these programmes are a waste of time if you insist on killing your brain cells then why not try some educational TV like the discovery channel or the history channel it is a much better conversation the next day rather than boring talk of fictional characters that don't even resemble true life.

no your not snobbish i stopped watching them about 2yrs ago. you have just realised the Americans know how to make a TV show better than we can. Also they don't bore you with it every night and you find yourself gagging for the next episode to start which can be up to 12mth so they know how to keep you keen.
