Do you appreciate the guidance? Or do you feel they're trying to nag and/or control you?

Is such behavior typical for them?

My Mom divorced from two men - I had a 10 years younger baby-brother and Momma was busy with her own issues when I was supposed to be getting guidance. After she'd more or less figured her problems out she noticed that I was not exactly controllable since I had managed to raise myself in the meantime. She tried to regain her authority to make me a little less opinionated and softer. She regained my respect when she stopped trying. Now she accepts me the way I am and even appreciates my independence. I love her the way she is and I very much appreciate her kindness - we've become good friends over the past decade.

Um...
That's personal.
Anyway, it would be a good idea to know and learn the concept of how different people raise their family.

Of course, my father and brother would always want me to be in the place where they think I should be. At some other times, it is the opposite to what I am dreaming about. Anyhow, as tiem passed by, we were able to talk about it and we finally came to a conclusion that they see the potential in me and they helped me to achieve the goal 've set before.

Its not that they want to control me but they simply want me to be successful in my carrier as well as for the benefit of the whole family. It is an Asian typical of family life.
I'm not quite sure about the West and how individual's choice and freedom of choice/ free-will is excercised in Western families.

I am a 22 year old female who lives in her own place, job,car everything but for some reason my mother calls me everyday and tries to tell me how to go about my day and what i should change for example she does not like the way I go about meeting guys or clubs and tries to tell me to go to church so i can meet them there, or tries to tell me to change my career path cause the one am in is not as challenging for me, sometimes I do appreciate the help and the fact that she cares but then again I like to manage my own life
