dont waste your money - I had sky and it wasnt worth the money - get a freeview Hard disc drive recorder like a Humax and you'll be away - it'll cost 200 squid, but you'll have the equivalent to the Sky+ box with pause live tv etc and you'll never have to pay a subscription - unless you want to watch football that is - Topup tv and Setanta are launching a stand alone 'near live' football service soon on freeview - either that or BT Broadband is launching a rental version.... hope this helps.

SKY just recently started offering BB but to be honest I haven't seen as many complaints about them as there was with talk talk.
For Sky broadband you need a BT phone line. If you don't have a BT line at the moment it would be difficult to say exactly what sort of speed you would get till the line was connected.
You should be able to transfer the phone service to a BT line while keeping the NTL BB service going, this way if there is a problem you can just stick to NTL for BB. If you get a BT line and say you need it for BB and BB is not available you won't be held to any term.
If you go to the BT site and put your postcode in to the availability checker it will give an indication as to the general availability in your area, if it says BB is not available or unlikely then forget it.
If you do have BT then as well as sky you have a much greater choice of supplier than with NTL

I extremely have NTL as I couldnt get Sky simply by no line of sight! fairly wish I did have sky as ntl doesnt have as many channels coated as sky alongside with sky a million. Sky is extra maximum not expensive besides.

If you're only doing it to get free broadband, then don't. A friend did that, & they were without their broadband service for around a month, cos of problems switching over. I have no problems with my ntl/Telewest service, so if you're happy with the service, stay put.

NTL uses cable which has a higher band width and should give the DL speeds you are paying for.
Sky and the others that use a BT line to transmit the signal get reduced speed as more people go online

Im not commenting on the TV side of thing but I would not reccommend moving from cable broadband to ADSL (over telephone line) as it is generally not as reliable or as fast as cable. You should check this out if you are bothered about your broadband connection
