Quoting my Wikipedia source: "The Deep South is a cultural and geographic subregion of the American South, differentiated from the "Old South" as being the post colonial expansion of Southern States in the antebellum period. There are various definitions of the term:

- South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana (Seven of the founding members of the Confederate States of America)

-Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana (From the Dictionary of Cultural Literacy)

-Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi (From the National Endowment for the Humanities)

You can see that Georgia appears on two out of the three categories and Texas none. Therefore, the answer must be Georgia. Texas is considered part of the Southwest, not of the South.

If you are thinking geographically, then I would say "Texas," but if not, and I think that is more of the case I would have to say "Georgia." Southern values are more entrenched in Georgia than in Texas. History and especially the history of slavery, plantations, "backwards" living, good ol' boy mentality, stereotypical "southern" things and all the thought that comes along with that is definitely more of a Georgia thing. Texas would share that same mindset in East Texas and not so much in other parts. I'm a Texas girl married to a Georgia raised boy, who has relatives in both states. I'm not saying some of those things don't exist or existed in Texas, but I think the extent to which they exist or existed is/was less.

Texas is considered a southern state and is closer to the equator, so Texas is deeper south geographically speaking.
