I would say none other than Deion Sanders! He is/was fast and alot of QBs where afraid to throw in his direction! He was part of the reason Dan Marino retired! Marino threw 5 interceptions in his last game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Good point Rock! Very good point! And Yes Champ Bailey is a contender for sure. I think all of us have our favorite players that we like and try to make them the top player. But Deion is definately up there as a contender if nothing else!

Sanders is #1.
After him:
Mike Haynes
Haynes is the only other NFL cornerback I considered putting in the top spot besides Sanders. In reality, the first-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in the 1976 draft was probably just as good as sanders – only, he got the job done differently than Deon, who many times, just overpowered weaker wide receivers into submitting to his will whereas Haynes was the epitome of grace under fire.
His rookie year with the New England, picking off eight passes and gave the Patriots their first-ever touchdowns on punt returns of 89 and 62-yards. Haynes also earned a Pro Bowl invitation as a rookie, the first of nine Pro Bowl bids.
Haynes, who also spent seven seasons with the Oakland Raiders, compiled a career total of 46 interceptions, including a Raider team-record 97-yard return against Miami in 1984. Haynes was an All-Pro choice in 1977, 1978, 1982, 1984 and 1985 and an All-AFC pick eight times. If that doesn’t say enough about Haynes’ ability, then I don’t know what would. Haynes is unequivocally one of the best cornerbacks in NFL history.

I would put Bailey above Deion. I thought Deion was an extremely fast and gifted athlete, but I feel he lacks the hands to be called the best cornerback ever. I would put Bailey up there. but I don't think I'd call him the greatest. I would probably go with Mel Blount, with Mike Haynes coming in a close 2nd.

great question. Sanders and 'Hayes and Haynes'of Oakland Raiders were a great team. Ronnie Lott was great too and a great safety. I think one of the great tantums were Kevin Smith and Larry Brown of the early 90's cowboys. They were equally great and the QB didn't know which CB to throw in the direction of. When Sanders showed up and Brown wen to Oakland, Kevin Smith was thrown to too many times and got burned. Rod Woodson was great too was excellent also. But being a cowboy homer, i really liked Everson Walls from the 80's

Come on its gotta be Everson Walls. Sure he wasn't as fast as any of the others that were mentioned, but his cover skills were far better than theirs.
