Anothey typical reason to invade our homes. It's already started. The government thought it was a good idea to stand behind the non-smokers because they were the majority that were speaking out against smoking. Whenever you see a majority go after something they tend to win. Yet, you take a look at all the smog in those big cities and see that perhaps a combo of smoking and smog are at the helm of what these non-smokers are trying to shove our way. They should be going after the big producers of pollutants yet as always they choose the minorities because going after the big guys cost too much.
When has smoking been the single diagnosis of a doctor, haven't seen it yet, no doctor is willing to testify that yes smoking was the only cause of death. Until they find the cell that causes cancer, only then will they be able to confirm with certainty that smoking was the root cause of death.

I as a smoker and more so an American am appalled that our Government even can think the can control what we do in the privacy of our own homes. Between smoking and the new anti trans fat craze, I only fear that there is more to come. I agree that smoking can be hazardous to your health, but, the jury is still out on the second hand effect that it does have. I have no problem if an establishment wants to ban smoking, but, to dictate to it is another problem.

It is violating my rights. But eventually the government will realize the loss of tax revenues that they will lose by banning smoking, just like they did when they said you shouldnt eat eggs because it was bad for your health years ago, but now eggs are a good food. HHHMMMM. It all has to do with what money they are losing, it has nothing to do with our health. They will never totally ban smoking in the states because the amount of money they would lose. If I want to smoke that is MY RIGHT! This is a free country, or have people forgotten that. The government and other people should be more worried about drunk drivers, child molesters and people of that sort. Who gives a **** what I do in my OWN house. I am not hurting anyone. In restaurants is totally understandable, I do agree with that. As long as it is legal, it is my house and what I chose to do in it, is my business. Not the governments nor anyone else that it doesnt affect. And as far as one person said about banning smoking in 18 wheelers, it is true they are doing it. My dad is a truck driver, they told him that he could not smoke in his 18 wheeler because it is company property. The only ones that can smoke in their rigs are the ones that are coming from out of the state of Ohio. If they are not from here they can smoke in their trucks.

Thats crazy!! I smoke but I smoke outside because I have a 7 month old daughter. Since I smoke outside my mom does now ( she always said she never would) I dont see where people can tell me what I can and can not do in my own home. I dont think that will go too well. What paper did you read that in?

I was ready to leave when I saw this question. I am a smoker. I can't pass this up, yes there was a town that passed this , you might find it on fark, com.
What amazes me is when Dallas mayor whats her face tells me that I cant smoke in her town and I look at the yellowish dirty green bubble that encapsulates that city, I cant but think my cigarette is actually doing the damage.
I can't understand why we are so concerned about smoking and at the same time, spend enormous amounts of money on aids and stds.
Yes the government will tell you when you can smoke, when you can drink(North Carolina cant drink beer and mow their yard), and coming soon when you can have sex and reproduce(we already have too many people, and global warming is here{joke})

That is not true. What site did you get this information from? The smoking bans in force all address public places. For example, Ohio's recent ban only covers public buildings. There have been some reports that it will ban smoking in commercial trucks like 18 wheelers also. This is likewise not true. Smoke 'em if you got 'em. By the way, I quit and my health is much better since, so maybe YOU might consider a ban in you own home. It was VERY difficult for me. Good luck

I don't think that's ever going to happen. I am not sure if it's the same here in the UK but in Italy the government has the monopoly on cigarettes, which means they make a hell lot of money from selling it. So what they do next? They put prices up in order for people to stop buying it and pocket some extra money. Clever bastards!!!

It would be imposible to regulate. The use of A class drugs is against the law but drugs are consumed or smoked on a regular basis by millions of people. If they were serious they would ban the importation and sale of cigarettes but this would have the effect of losing the chancelor millions in tax revenue.

I can't wait until someone in the government actually wakes up and realises that they will lose billions every year from smokers tax and it's ok for the non smokers to say well you shouldn't be smoking etc but just wait until their smile is wiped off their faces when they realise that if the government is not making tax off smokers then it will start to make tax off the drinkers and the motorists etc..... What goes around will come around! But in answer to your question personally I have no need for council workers to be at my home, doctors don't make house calls anymore so it really should not affect me!

I don't think it's right to stop people from smoking in their own homes but it is ok to ban smoking in public places. I live in Scotland and the ban on smoking in public places has been in place for months now. It's great to go for a night out and to come home and not smell like an ashtray.
