I am looking at buying a laptop, that will also function as a video editor. I have noticed that almost all the laptops have only 5400 rpm. The specs required to run my Adobe Premiere Elements call for 7200 rpm on my hard drive. If I connect an external hard drive to the laptop, that runs at 7200 rpm will this be sufficient, will the software work? Also the above laptop I am looking at has a CPU speed of 1.6 ghz but is a dual processor. Again, is the system adequate to run a video editor like Adobe Premiere Element?

Thank You for your knowledge and experience

If you add an external harddrive and run Adobe off of that harddrive, not your 5400 RPM one, then yes.
the dual core AMD 1.6ghz should be good enough to run it.

Yes, it would run if the laptop you're buying has USB 2.0 ports to connect your external hard drive to. But, have you tried Toshiba Qosmio? I've heard they're some of the best laptops out there, that one might have the hard disk you're looking for.
But there are laptop hard disks at the speed you want. Google for them. I found a few - Hitachi for example.

Technically it may be like having the potential of a 4.0 Ghz single middle, even nevertheless it particularly does not carry out at its terrific. it rather is going to hold out properly adequate to be considered extra perfect than a three.0Ghz single middle, yet to call it a 4.0Ghz processor is a lie. Its merely 2 cores, working each and every at 2.0Ghz. middle Duo is the extra recent twin middle processors, and are plenty swifter, even nevertheless the middle clocks are on the factor of the comparable. Its all ameliorations in FSB speeds, which hurries up the interplay with different aspects.
