Can anyone help me please. I want to be hypnotised to learn how to relax. I would be grateful for any help be it from a student or a professional.
Many thanks

You might try changing your diet.Toxins that build up in your body can have side effects.I have been taking magnesium tablets around once a day. They say if you eat calcium tablets for heart burn it robs you of your magnesium.I also take calcium with vitamin D sometimes if my legs are bothering me.(RLS.)Coffee or chocolate even decaf can have negative effects on your body too.Look into PH balance also. Breads and pastries sweets that aren't natural I have found can contribute to heartburn.Healthier body; healthier mind. I think it would be harder to meditate when you're all plugged up inside.I f you have a GNC or health food store, there might be some herbals you can try too. You might otherwise start on some short term mood stabilizers like xanax or Trazodone (cheap) from your doctor to begin with. So, get a check-up. If it's really bad some of these meds are a blessing sometimes. Sorry, I don't really know much about hypnosis but these other things should help too I believe. Ever heard of Burn-out? Nervous breakdown?

I've been through hypnosis (although it turned out I needed more conventional therapy as my problem was very deep rooted). It takes a lot of work at home from the patient and you can only change if you allow yourself to be changed. It's not a miracle cure, but is very successful in many cases. It is supposed to be very good for learning how to relax. Eventually you learn how to hypnotise yourself so you can employ your techniques in any given situation, where you would like to feel calmer.

Good luck

Hope this link helps.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are two very different things. I'd stay well away from hypnosis if i were you. Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis in a theraputic context. Im not a hypnotherapist, but apparently it can work wonders. Consult your GP or a clinician in the mental health sector of the NHS for advice.

You may find that the theraputic values of hypnotherapy are not for you, so they may be able to recommend alternative therapies. For long term relief of stress and learning how to relax, think methodically and create a better sense of sense of self and promote mindfulness- i have recommended meditation to patients before.

If it interests you, again take caution and read up about it and its practical uses well, because as with any therapy, it could have harmful effects if not practiced properly.

Your first step should be to talk to someone in your local Mental Health authority and they should be able to help you.

Good Luck! :-)

I would be very careful with hypnotits. I worked at a holiday resort for a year or so and encountred a 'hypnotist' who did not really understand what he was doing and left people with the most painful headaches. Granted, his show was flawless and funny, but afterwards he'd have to put people under again and again before the headaches subsided. This is a side of things the public never saw. He made each person it happened to think they were a one off and it must be somethign to do with them, but in reality it was all too common. Mind you, it was not everyone, maybe one in ten, something like that who suffered the side effects. You are talking about people messing with parts of your brain, is this really what you want?
Are there not other ways to relax, maybe creating time and space for yourself at home. Use lavender oils on your pillows etc. Hypnosis may just be more trouble than it is worth. x

Books help. I had a hypnosis therapist, which helped a lot with my stress, etc. It does work (coming from a patient). I stopped seeing the therapist, but I read a lot of books about hypnotherapy. I learned how to hypnotize myself, which is pretty cool. It saved me a lot more money than all those damn sessions. It is basically about concentrating and focusing your energies on your subconscious mind and throwing ideas in on ways to relax..fun stuff.
