Yes, the politically correct world we live in does not accept anything that isn't politically correct as humor. I think today's world has less humor than it used to. I love to watch old movies and I find many of the things in them would be offensive to people today. Yet they are eliminating the way that people have lived in the past. You cannot change history. I feel sorry for the younger generation as they will think everything in the past was bigoted and will Not realize that that was just the way of life at that time.

1. I agree about Metallica 100%. They have gone too mainstream and lost their metal theme. Megadeth, I agree also, but their newest albums shows that they still got it. But I have been a Slayer fan all my life, and there is a lot of different concept that they show. Compare Hell Awaits to World Painted by Blood. COMPLETELY different riffs, drum beats, vocals, etc. Lastly, Anthrax they have lost it, I don't even think they deserve to be part of the Big 4 anymore. You don't hear anything from them! 2. I would say Slayer and Metallica. During the 90s, Slayer came out with Seasons of the Abyss, which is one of the most amazing thrash albums there ever is. Also, for Metallica ...And Justice for All came out then. That is one of my favorite albums from Metallica. 3. Municipal Waste, Evile, Gama Bomb, Warbringer, and Toxic Holocaust. All amazing bands now a days that are keeping the thrash alive. I'm only 14, but I know my metal. :P

I dont think the PC brigade would like it, but then thats the point of the film, to show the inequality and how ni**er was so accepted in most of the last century as a deroggatory word, yet used by all the "good white folk". Actually, there were also a couple of quite strong anti gay lines in it too which i suspect the censors would have kittens about.
the camp town ladies sing this song...

I agree
In a day and age where everything must be so "politically correct" I cannot see this film getting past the screening prior to release. Brooks, however, didn't limit his insults on just one group, he insulted everybody.
I too, think that the film is very funny, I think people would benefit from seeing the humor in this movie and worry less about the insults.

I don't think it would cause any more of a stir now than it probably did then. Afterall we now live in a world where Borat has just made a fortune. I think that shows that no matter who these people are who like to parade around with plackards condemning stuff there are always more of us of every colour, religion and nationality who think far more rationally and intelligently and see a good comedy for exactly what it is: a good comedy.

I have a black girlfriend, and we both agree that this is one of the funniest films ever made. Oh, and its Gene Wilder's best ever film.
The PC brigade would have a field day with it now though,. What i cant understand, is why black people call other black people 'ni**er, but take offence if a white person uses the same word. Even my partner cant answer that one

I like this movie very much and saw it more than 25 times...
But You couldn't do it in our time of "political correctness" !
"The new Sheriff is a nig... Ding..." --- "What !!!?"
"The new Sheriff is a nig... Dong..." .... --- "What !!!?"
Or the "Jewish" Indian Chief speaking Yiddish,
or the jokes about the "bad Germans", the jokes
about "Arabs" --- And the jokes about women! the redhaired girl in the red sexy underweare, the Governers "SEXretary"....
You cannot do this in our times = 2007.
Times have changed, also the movies.
The movies nowadays are different. There is more SEX
and OF COURSE too much violence in the new movies —
but I miss this ... kind of humor
from the earlier days.... And Mel Brooks is really special.
"Blazing Saddles" is with "High Anxiety" one of the best
Mel Brooks-movies ever ... from my point of view...
Aaron Moses from Germany / Berlin.

Yes, the PC mob would have a field day, there were a lot of movies from that time which have had some of their best one liners changed so that they can be shown today.
Its just so sad -

I believe it was as "offensive" then as it is now but it was satire - it was meant to be provocative and to point out the absurdities of intolerence.
....and yes it is very funny but it really was intended to make us realize our own prejudices because it is so over the top. Mel Brooks was brilliant with this.

Ah... yes the good ol' days.
But no different than The lyrics of alot of today's popular music.
I think there is another level of awareness today, as there should be if we're to evolve .
