How do I change the plug on my vacuum cleaner? It shorted out and I assume that it was from pulling it out of the wall from the middle of the cord. I don't blame myself for this one. LOL

Obviously the individual who replied, (namely donna s), has a large insecurity about herself and has to count on other individuals to carry her weight. We must feel nothing but pity for people such as these.

Go to a hardware place and get a replacement two-prong plug. Cut back enough of the outer insulation of the cord to expose about 3/4 inch of the white and black conductor and remove about 1/4 inch of the white and black insulation. Take the plug apart. Put the appropriate part over the cord. The bared black wire goes under the darker colored screw and the white under the lighter colored screw. Tighten both VERY tight (an independent female CAN do it) and reassemble the plug. And vacuum to your heart's content--or have the semi-independent male do it..

You can purchase a new plug at most hardware stores. It will probably even have the instructions on the package to indicate which wire to connect to terminals on the plug. You'll only have two wires. Black is the hot and white is the neutral.
However, I'm not sure the cord "shorted out" from being pulled out of the wall. In fact, plugs don't short out. You may have something of a different problem. But, I don't know enough about the exact nature of your situation to be able to give any further advice.

Good luck

If you don't know what you are doing, let a repair shop handle it. No need to have a fire. If you know what you are doing, you need to order a whole new cord. Depending on the model, you will have to take apart the vacuum to see where the plug connects and go from there.
