I use a gprs connection through my mobile phone which gives me a speed of 3 to 4 kbps. I think your connection should be better than mine. I use firefox browser for browsing except for those sites where IE is a must
also I keep my computer regularly clean using ccleaner.
I uninstall or disable those programs on my computer which try to access internet without notifying. I use a firewall to keep track of what program is accessing internet.

make sure the modem is operating at it's best, lastest drivers installed from manufacturers website. Second check your service to see if it is able to handle faster access. sometimes limiting factors on older outdated information systems keep your computer line down to a 28.6 or something like that, have not had one in awhile, modem that is. If your modem is up to speed as is your server through the phone line only other things that slow down a modem that I'm aware of are noise, check phone line for static and then check and be sure to have all unused extensions off the modem line and anything else that can act like an atenna to induce noise into your phone line. Other than that best of luck ..

You can nearly double the speed of your dialup Internet connection if you connect two phone lines and two modems to your computer.
Check link below.
Or you can get a wireless laptop$$$
Or You Could Move to were the cable is...I'd Move...lol.

Have you called your phone company to see if they know of a service? There's a service in my town that uses the phone lines. It's a separate company, separate billing, but they are affiliated. I got the hook-up for close to the cost of my basic telephone bill, and it does not tie up my phone line. So it's a win/win situation. Call the phone company to see if they know of a way other than dial-up for your area.

There are ways to change the packet sizes of the data ,(located in the registry settings)..also other registry changes..I found these at Regedit.com, now Windows Registry Guide..Just write down your current values, if your unhappy with the changes..there are also tweak programs that will alter these settings automatically for you .Search for dial-up or 56k tweaks on google..

Although I personally wouldn't recommend this:
http://www.filetransit.com/view.php?id=7284
This claims to be a smart connection for those whom are on dial-up service. If Dial-up is your only alternative, then look into other isp providers and another phone company.
Some phone companies and your isp, ( aol, wal-mart internet service etc) do not work well together. Its like having 4 pieces of a puzzle and they don't fit together.
if your phone companies is your only source, then locate alternate isp. net-zero, aol, wal-mart internet, etc If you can have a "dish network" they offer isp service packages too.

I am afraid u cant do so. But u can try one thing.
Register urself on OpenDNS.com and follow the instructions. Sometimes it helps to get some extra data transfer speed.
