Richard Branson was born on July 18, 1950. His entrepreneurial ways began early when he was publishing a student magazine at just 16 years. Branson did not go on to graduate school but in 1970 the now famous Virgin brand had its beginnings in the form of a discount records mail order venture that he and his friend Nik Powell worked on.

Virgin Records
Soon after opening a record store on Oxford Street, London, Branson began a recording label in 1972, Virgin Records.

Richard Branson is a wizkid, clear and simple, the best brains in the world of business often are those that have not been fried at Harvard or Cambridge, but have been left free to create business empires through sheer guts, determination, drive ambition, creativity and vision as well as the will to succeed. He also made it by well timed and clever maneouvours, first when he sold the highly successful Virgin Records to launch Virgin Atlantic Airlines after the Record company had been floated on the stock exchange and had a value in excess of $1 Billion USD when he sold it, he had plenty of cash when his airline launched in 1984 with one B747( I actually flew back from America on it, in October that year ) and has gone on to be worldwide success. Not to menton his many other business spinoffs and now the pending launch of Virgin Galactic into Space, bringing space travel to the people in the street. What a guy !

Exactly the right time and place with the stuff to take advantage of the day !! Started out selling records---started making them and just happened to hit on about six or eight major artists in a row very early on in his recording business (Virgin Records)
Got excellent advice from financial whiz kids early on and opted newly found riches in the recording business into other up and coming ventures and.... the midas touch was developed into the megastar that today is Virgin enterprises !!!!
