My printer is a HP Model 720. The port or connection device is rather wide and there is no room in the back of the computer for me to hook it up to. The computer is brand new but, from rent a center.

You will need a usb printer cable, the one you have is the wrong one.

ACID! What part of "she doesnt have a parallel printer port on her PC" dont you understand? ALL PCs dont! They are all but obsolete!

from the HP product page:

For best performance, HP recommends an IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable, 10 feet (3 meters) or less in length.

So get a parallel cable; you should have a parallel port on your PC (all PCs do)
