I have an interview for the position on tuesday and I know i would make a good job of it but struggle at interviews. I need help answering interview questions, particularily how would I know if an initiative i implemented was effect how would i know i was doing a good job?

First you need to establish the aims and goals that the student and parents have. Bear in mind, the parents have a strong influence, but at the end of the day, it is the student's life, not the parent's.

Do they have any career ideas already?

Do they understand what their life-long career path would be like? (I went into electronics and computers, but soon found myself pressurised to go into management, a job I hate).

Are they opening up or closing down opportunities?

Do they understand the commitment and cost of any university course they need for their career?

Where would they live if they go into a particular career. Are all the jobs a long way from home? Would they lose touch with famly and friends and have to make new friends?

To asses how effective an initiative is, you might use...

1. Both Quantitative Measures (numbers) and Qualitative Measures.

2. Quantitative and Qualitative Measures in absolute terms and relative to how things were before this single initiative.

Does the school, education board or careers advisors professional societies have any existing systems for measuring effectiveness? You might find contact details on the web and phone them up tomorrow.

That's easy - make sure that you follow up with students after you have seen them to see how they are doing.
