Gone underground. My mates smack their kid only once or twice, but when she needs it.
As the grandmum said, a two year old kid has less reasoning powers than a puppy (funny she nor any of us would hit). She finished by saying that since they can get into much more trouble than a puppy, and are much more likely to be stubborn, a smack is the only way to get the point across.
I admit I was very seldom smacked. but I could have used it. My parents and grandparents were saints. If I ever have children, I do not know if or how often I would give them a smacking, that waits to be seen.

This is exactly what's wrong with society today. Punishment is a thing of the past or so it seems. I don't agree with hitting children though i got it myself. As they grow up you can guide them in the right direction, it is after all your job as you brought them into the world. Crime on the other hand definetely should be punishable but here in the UK it's actually rewarded. Most cases never result in a prison sentence though if it is it's usually a short spell at HMP, three meals a day, tv/dvd, playstation/X-Box, and every conceivable luxury in your cell. If you don't like it, that's fine. Sue the government on your release and you'll likely end up with compensation for violation of human rights but to hell with the rights of the victim. Anyway this doesn't answer your question but we should adopt the attitude of Americans and get hard on these people.

Yup I remember the slipper. And the wooden spoon! That hurt. My granny broke her big jam spoon (massive wooden thing used for sirring the massive pan of jam) over my ar$e when I was bout 12.
Did anyone else become immune to the pain of a slapped ar$e?
Most parents nowadays are reluctant to shout at their child for misbehaving for fear of being called a bad parent.
BRING BACK THE SLIPPER!!!
Done me no harm and I'm fed up of hoodie thugs and spoilt brats

Spare the rod spoil the child TRUE!
Just look around in the housing estates of Britain gangs of neds Chavs foul mouthed KIDS, name calling Smashed windows lots of old and not so old scared to come out their houses at night .damaged cars the list goes on. The liberals of Europe demonised smacking naughty kids and corporal punishment and the results are all around!

I think the slipper would have been less harmful in our house, my father was a psychopath and used the buckle end of his leather belt to hit us with or just his fists, I hate to see any child been beaten as punishment, no need for it, so for me hopefully slippering has gone by the by and won't raise its ugly head again.

Corporal punishment even if it 'works' is a very primitive method of control and in my case the more I was beaten the more I said F U and that has not changed.
Such a primitive form of behaviour is not conducive for the well being of the individual let alone the society as a whole.
But this issue is not well enough understood and so the barbaric practise and the barbarians will remain until enough of us do understand what is going on.

I got it when I was a kid and I vowed never to do it to my children. I now have a 13 year old daughter who has never been smacked or spanked and I don't have any discipline problem with her.
Unfortunately the slippering hasn't died!
