My friend used to swallow coins years ago as a party trick.not often but i seen him doing it 2 or 3 times.we were joking about it the last day and we were debating what would happen to them.would they of disolved or stayed in the stomach.i know someone is going to say how stupid it is and i agree.but i dont want people saying that.i just want to know what would of happened to those coins.thank you

Seeing as the acid in your stomach is HCl, and following the reactivity series of metals, it is quite possible for most of a penny to be dissolved in your stomach. A post 1985 penny is made of mostly zinc, but gives off the copper color because of the very thin coat of copper around the zinc core. So, if parts of the penny were filed down somehow to expose the zinc core, it is possible for the stomach acid to dissolve the zinc and leave just a copper shell of the penny. This penny will not come out as a completed shell because of its malleability and the abuse it takes going from the stomach, through the intestines then into the rectum and finally out through the anus. My guess is it should come out in tiny pieces that cannot really be observed or a tiny little crushed ball of copper. If he swallowed any other coin, or a penny that didnt have any zinc exposed, it would probably just come out whole. (isnt zinc a micronutrient? so, if you ate an exposed penny, couldnt you have some severe problems? just a thought.)

my friend did the same thing as a joke and at the End the coin became black and his dad made it a nickles for him coz it was like a week till it came out LOOOOL

It could not be digested , so it will come out as it is. But warn your firend about ingesting fruit seeds or piths, they may not be passed out because they usually stick to wet surfaces and may grow in his stomach.

they wouldn't disolve...they would have stayed the same conditiona dn went out the oposite way of which they went in.

the coin will not be corroded by the acid which is inside the stomach.so in the it will come out when he or she is in washroom;or they will vomit it out.
