Yes, it seems that way. I don't think all of it's bad though. If they have a lot of extracurricular activities then a cell phone would be useful. They could have also realized that they just enjoy music rather than make-believe (dolls). The dating thing, I am not too content with but as long as it's the harmless crushes, I mean puberty does kick in around that time, then it seems justified.
However, there are those tweens who just seem to be TRYING to be older. They have expensive cell phones and music players when they aren't old enough to be without an adult or remember that they have a dentist appointment. They date and talk about all kinds of sexual acts I'm just now hearing about.
All in all, I agree, they do seem to be acting older. However if they are just naturally maturing, outgrowing old hobbies and certain situations warrant the need for this change, then it's all good.

Yes definatly ...
Was only 8 years ago that I was 11 and that was when mobile phones first started to come into schools, but since the introduction of camera phones, mp3 players and Ipods and newer games consoles every child aged 10,11,12 needs to have the latest gadgets and gizmo's.
It's very rare that you will find a 10 year old doing what we used to do such as puzzles and board games.
And also the teens are acting like 20 year olds.... seems like there has been a movement in when children grow up.

No. Even if you are a license care giver there is a max of 4 or 5 kids you can watch at any given time. Plus how would a 14 year old have 8 hours a day to devote to watching other kids when they should be in school.

perhaps i know at the high school i attend the kids there act like they are 21 and up, it could be a possibility the 10 is the new 13! You do have to remember though this has happened in our communities before in the late 1800s it really just started moving back to the way we know it now in the 30s and 40s, it will probably cycle back to being like 13 as a teen soon!

No, they are 10-12 year olds TRYING to act like 14 year olds. But all though they have the technology, their brains are yet not developed, so they are still immature kids, trying to live up to "social standards" and act bigger. Same goes for 14-16 year olds. I myself am 14, I am mature my age, but I also recognise the fact that my brain is not yet fully developed, so i don't try and act like it is

yes, ive been noticin the same thing. n honestly, i think its ridiculous.
most people like to blame MTV n the media. i agree, the media has a big part to play for the new changes in childrens mindset, but PARENTS share the same blame as well. most parents who hav these 10,11,12 year olds that act like teens are those who ignore their children. they dont get involved in their children's lifes, they're too busy w/ their own lifes n goals that they leave their children at the mercy of the adult world. B/C their parents ignore them, they dont get the same rules n boundaries we got as children.

Blame popular culture for that one buddy. I think it's sick. I hate to say it but the majority of girls can only be classified as "skanks" in this generation at that age. Its very sad for our society. They do, dress like and act like what they see on MTV, and those on MTV are complete whores and junkies.
