Apocalypso is a novel by the British author Robert Rankin. It is often considered one of his best works, and deals with Porrig's adventures in a magic bookshop and a giant telepathic vegetable from outer space.
it is the name of a film that was recently broadcasted and directed by Mel Gibson, and the word is also the other term used for the book of Revelation in the Bible.

The biblical book of the APOCALYPSE tells about the end of times.
The movie is about the end of a civilization (the Maya) and - even though the Maya did not speak Spanish - my guess is that Mel Gibson invented a "Spanish" form of the word to place it in Middle America.
