A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to and may or may not abuse children. If you or someone you know would rather spend time with a child instead of a an adult, but there is nothing sexual going on, it is not pedophilia. Not all parents, teachers, coaches, big brothers/sisters ect. are pedophiles even the one's who actually enjoy their position and spending time with children.

Webster's Dictionary had only one description for pedophilia: "sexual perversion in which children are the preferred sexual object". I think that pretty much says it all, but of course I have to say more....
Now that I'm a grandmother, I do prefer my grandchildren's company to pretty much anyone else's. I believe that some of us are drawn to them because they are pure - unlike anything else on this earth. Their innocence and ability to give unconditional love is something that we don't often find in adults. It's extremely comforting to my soul to be with children because of that. They also make me laugh a lot because of the crazy things they say and do. They have a way of making you feel like you're a hero after having done very little to earn the title.
I do have to wonder though, if a person wants to ONLY spend time with children and not adults, if there is something more going on inside of them. Maybe they could be trying to avoid dealing with the responsibilities of growing up, or trying to re-live their own childhood if theirs was messed up.
I'ts possible they just enjoy playing with kids because it can be such an escape from the normal day-to-day living - a chance to return to a world of make-believe where the pressures of reality disappear temporarily.
As long as there is absolutely no sexual attraction involved, I think it's wonderful way for us to spend our time. So many children are starving for love, attention, and discipline. I suppose a person would need to ask themselves what their motives are. If you are wondering about another person's motives, then that is going to be a tough one to figure out. I would observe them as much as possible, keep your eyes wide open, ask other people who know them or are around them for their feelings about the person, and then go with your gut feelings.

A paedophile is someone who makes a child take part in a sexual act - that could be touching them, being touched by them, making them watch porn, making them watch you. That sort of thing.
