I do...especially war history and biographies. I particularly like reading about the small details of such things in addition to the broad picture. Right now I'm reading about 6 or 7 books on the Battle of Berlin (April, 1945) as seen from all sides. (I'm the kind of guy who reads war books with maps and dictionaries spread out all over the place.)
Although I don't spend much time on ancient history, I've gotta speak about the book "Pontius Pilate" by Ann Wroe. I've read this book three times in the last year. It is the most amazing scholarly and detailed biography I've ever read. I can't say enough about how much I've learned from it and how it puts so much into perspective. It goes so far beyond the Pontius Pilate we know from the Bible...well, it's just incredible.

Yes I thrive on history I try to look at all aspects.I'm very intrested in the military aspect but to understand it fully you need to look at the people and their personalities, the attitude of the public and the era of which the conflict took place.I especially like to investigate the common folk and not just the leaders.I've learned the most about the american civil war not by reading dates and places but by reading diaries of common soldiers and their daily lives. We have a lot to learn from history if you understand what happened then it may help you avoid mistakes in the future.

I would not say I "enjoy" to learn about wars. I do learn about history due to my own interest and continued to study about it after my graduation from school, but it is not exactly "enjoyable" to learn about how people have killed each other. I have studied esp. about WW2 because it is very important for history and is something so horrible that I can't simply ignore it.

It has been a passion for me since the first grade. I recently retired as a full professor of history. I took every history course there was at my undergraduate college. I have researched for Historians and Lectured. I have always loved it. I am not a geek. So those of you who would criticize forget it. I am also a decorated combat veteran and I played semi-pro football. I am proud of all of it, but mainly my love and knowledge of History.

I don't like textbook history, the sort you have to remember for a test. But I love watching documentaries on the History Channel. I love William Dalyrymple's books too.

i do. i have my favourite times, all included wars or infighting. i prefer
ancient rome
french revolution
vikings
so maybe i am reincarnated. learning history OUGHT to help prevent same mistakes being made again. sadly, history is often distorted. you can read about nero or caligula as either good or bad people when actually they were a mixture of both , like us all. inbreeding caused lots of problems in olden times

Yes, but you only actually learn something if you have good sources (especially original sources).
Everybody has an opinion, most of them are worthless...
(Wars I don't care so much about. They make up only a tiny percentage of historical influence on human beings.)
